THE BIKE
This is a 1998 Supreme x Brooklyn Machine Works 24’ Cruiser Hard Tail Bike. Authenticated by Sotheby’s, the bike is now exclusively offered for private sale.

Rarely seen and virtually impossible to buy; this bike is 1 of 36 ever made. Solder marked ‘S2’ on the frames inner rear forks, indicating this particular bike is number 2 of the 36 produced.Mythical even back in 98, these custom BMW bikes were given out to Supreme stores and managers only and were never released for public sale.

Re-chromed, re polished and re-sprayed; this custom build, 21 year old BMW bike is as close to its original day 1 condition as can be. Recently restored to the highest standards by Colourtech UK; the bike retains all parts from the original spec, right down to the branded decals. This custom BMW build boasts an iconic list of premium parts and features. Special elements like the Araya rims, Odyssey saddle and hand made Crupi pedals that were obscure for the late 90’s and even more so today as they are virtually irreplaceable.

BMW & SUPREME Purveyors of the custom built, tough, street bike, BMW started up in 1996 after making custom pedals and rim brakes for themselves and friends, being fed up with the breaking parts avaiable at the time. As a natural progression they set up a workshop building complete bikes. Specialising in one offs, prototypes and hybrids, BMW produced bikes that stayed true to their signature; making solid, hand tooled frames with built to last components. The Cruiser is a bike that defines a certain time in the mid 90’s NYC street scene. BMW made them combining the best on the market parts with their own custom, hand made frames and for the Supreme Cruisers they also engraved the logo onto the stem, front forks and rear brake, sealing the history of this fabled hook-up into the body of each bike. American made and in synergy with the simple, no bullshit delivery of Supreme itself, the BMW cruiser bike was ‘New York style’ hard and of unbreakable quality.
As gritty bike builders, Brooklyn Machine Works frames stood out for being steel Chromolloy at a time in the mid 90s when lighter aluminium was becoming the thing. A reputation they made on real NYC roots, no compromising.

THIS BIKES HISTORY The current owner, Will Anstee, acquired the bike in the late 90’s whilst working as the store manager of cult London clothing store Fly. The store was owned by Simon Porter and was renowned for stocking Supreme, a highly unusual status for an independent, as Supreme were and still are notorious for keeping thier product in-house. In 1998, Fly regular and valued friend, Eric Clapton collaborated on a clothing project, Choke, with Will and Simon. During this time, Eric picked up the bike from the original Laffayette Supreme store and knowing these bikes were only intended to be given out to stores and managers, he kindly gifted the bike to Fly. The full story of Choke and the collaboration with Eric is further detailed on the W-A-M website and also called out in Eric’s self titled, 2007 autobiography, (P284-5).
